Simple American food only a few blocks away??? Oh yeah, that’s right, a KFC and a Jack in the Box. Unless you consider dim sum simple American food.

Living on 2nd Ave down the street from the early 80′s-2000 I grew up eating at EATS and will miss the old place. But the new owners have done a tremendous job with the new EATS. The prices don’t seem that different and there are some great new items on the menu. I hope our community continues to support EATS, Hamburger Haven and other key breakfast places on Clement.

I really like Burma Superstar, and B Star. Mike from B Star said “Eat’s will be remain as breakfast, lunch and brunch…and will be nothing like B Star or Burma SuperStar…”. Eat’s already looks very very different, I hope they will do a good job with the food.

do we really know what is going to be served or just a bunch of rumors being spread around????

i have live on clement and 2nd avenue for the last 8 years and probably eaten at eats 5-6 times. the food at eats sucked; menu never change, greasy, oily, boring, always smell like food when i leave the place, nothing hasnt been updated in the last 8 + years. main reason why people go to eats is because its cheap, cheap and cheap. wouldnt be surprised if owners sold the restaurant because they were not making money for such grueling work.

as for the labeling of “american food”, what is so american about huevo rachero, teriyaki chicken, etc…????

i hope new owners will do a good job, i hope they will keep it breakfast.

RIP Eats. Your ricotta pancakes, thin crisp bacon and eggs perfectly prepared will be sorely missed. The new owners should call it Cheats and not Eats because San Francisco has been cheated of its best breakfast experience.

Give it a rest with the American and Asian labeling… and put away the gentrification finger pointing they have Huevos Rancheros on their brunch menu amongst other things. There is nothing wrong with simple multiculturalism, it is what this country is founded on. After all, when I can eat at 5 or more Pho restaurants or an even larger number of Sushi restaurants in a two block radius it is time for more variety.

This is no loss. For “American” food, it was a pretty shabby excuse.

Besides, mini-franchises are an SF restaurant tradition.

There’s some sort of American (I think) place being installed on California between 5th and 6th, replacing a sushi restaurant.
