Police Blotter – November 13, 2009

CAPTAIN RICHARD CORREIA’S MESSAGE
During the last two weeks we have received four reports of burglaries at business in the Richmond District. In each case the suspect(s) seemed to be looking for cash or small items of value.

The burglaries all occurred during the evening hours and were perpetrated as follows:

– October 30, 2009 (10:30 PM to 8:00 AM the next day) on the 5000 Block of Geary: Entry was made by removing vent windows above the glass front door of a commercial establishment.

– October 30, 2009 (11:30 PM to 9:30 AM the next day) on the 5400 Block of Geary: Entry was made by smashing the front window a commercial establishment.

– October 31, 2009 (6:30 PM to November 2, 2009 at 9:50 AM) on the 1500 Block of Clement Street. Entry was made by removing a sliding metal gate from its track and then prying out a pane of glass from the front door.

– November 10, 2009 (7:00 PM to 8:50 AM the next morning) on the 1500 Block of Clement Street. Entry was made by forcing open the front door.

If you notice any suspicious activity, especially on Geary Boulevard or the Clement Street commercial zones, please call 911 immediately.

During the past week, there were 21 traffic accidents, 8 involving injuries. There were 6 citations issued for driving without a license or driving on a suspended license. There were 3 arrests for driving under the influence.

NOTEWORTHY ARRESTS
On 11/07/09 at 7:57pm officers responded to 7th and Fulton on a call of a male screaming and yelling who had knocked over a motorcycle. The caller stated that the male and the female who was accompanying him appeared to be intoxicated. Officers located the two at 8th Avenue and Cabrillo and observed that the male suspect was stumbling around and couldn’t speak. Officers also located the motorcycle lying on its side. The caller identified the suspect as the one he had witnessed knocking over the bike. The male suspect was also found to be in possession of narcotics and narcotic paraphernalia. The female was 17 years of age and released to her father. The 19 year old male was charged arrested.

On 11/08/09 at 3:10pm officers were called to an assault that had just occurred at the Big Rec baseball field in Golden Gate Park. The two teams that were playing got into a “bench clearing brawl” over a call made by an umpire. A third team who was sitting in the bleachers decided that they needed to get involved as well. One of the members of the third team struck one of the players over the head with a baseball bat which caused a serious injury. The injured player was taken to a local hospital and the suspect, a 32 year old male, was charged with aggravated assault.

On 11/11/09 at 1:54pm officers were patrolling in the area of 23rd Avenue and Geary when they observed a known auto burglar standing on the corner. The officers knew that the suspect was on parole and detained him. He was found to be in possession of burglar tools, a violation of his parole and for which he was arrested.

On 11/11/09 at 10:45pm plainclothes officers were in the area of 4th Avenue and Fulton due to auto burglaries in the area. They observed two males walking east on Fulton, on the park side of the street, looking into the windows of parked vehicles. The suspects continued this behavior for
several blocks and were detained by the officers. One of the Suspects, a 28 year old male, was in possession of narcotics and had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The other male was released at the scene.

NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS
Between 11/06/09 at 6:30pm and 11/07/09 at 9:15am on the 100 block of 7th Avenue a suspect entered a garage and broke into two vehicles parked inside. The suspect took a jacket from one of the vehicles. There were no signs of forced entry.

Between 11/08/09 at 5:00pm and 11/11/09 12:30pm a suspect broke into a vacant home on the 500 block of 11th Avenue. The house is up for sale and is currently being staged with rental furniture. The suspect took various items of furniture that were in the home by possibly backing up a van to the home in the early hours of morning.

Between 11/10/09 at 4:00pm and 7:45am the next morning a suspect spray painted the children’s play area at a park on the 900 block of Anza. The markings were hate related and lewd.

On 11/11/09 at 4:39am three males wearing masks and armed with handguns entered a drug store on the 5200 block of Geary. One of males demanded cash while pointing a gun at an employee. The males all fled to a vehicle and drove off west on Geary Boulevard. The males were all wearing dark clothing. The vehicle was described as a light colored 4 door sedan.

Between 11/10/09 at 7:00pm and 9:15the next morning a suspect entered a business on the 1500 block of Clement Street and took cash from the register. The suspect gained entry by prying open the front door.
