Playland at the Beach profiled in Eye on the Bay (video)

During Thanksgiving week, CBS5’s Eye on the Bay featured a short segment on Playland at the Beach, the amusement park that was located in the Richmond District along the Great Highway until it closed in 1972.

Check out the short video below which also features Playland-not-at-the-Beach, a fun center in El Cerrito where a lot of the Playland history and artifacts are on display.

  1. Very cool, but wasn’t it Playland-AT-the-Beach, not -BY-the-Beach? That’s why the El Cerrito one is called Playland-not-at-the-Beach; all they did was insert the word “not”.

  2. We lived on 38th between Balboa and Cabrillo. At an early age I calimed the sunroom as mine so I could hear the sounds of Playland and the fpghorns from the Golden Gate. Told my kids as we drove by the homes there now – their comment – We hope that nothing like that happens to the Boardwalk, we lived in Santa Cruz when they were little. Thanks for the memories.
