Before it’s too late…

RichmondSFBlog reader Joanne sent this in to me after reading our post What to do with the Alexandria Theater?. She originally designed the poster for a graphics design class.

What would Joanne like to see happen with the Alexandria? “I’d like the theater to become a theater again. If they could show plays and stuff that would be even better, we have so few fun nightspots in the Richmond and it was so beautiful inside.”

  1. I love the poster, but the second url is wrong. It’s sfneighborhoodtheater.org. Is Joanne British? 😉

  2. It is a (now not so) secret dream of the Pauls to be a part of rejuvenating the Alexandria, all four of us have various backgrounds in theatre, and would simply love to see it come back to life. Sign us up!

  3. “If they could show plays and stuff…” Who is they? Would you want to be the person
or company to invest in that old building?

  4. I really would like to see the theater become a theater again. I’m not familiar with the economics of running a movie palace like the Alexandria, but it’s return would be a lovely divergence from the trend of mega-theaters with their 12 to 20 screens.

RIP: a few of my favorites, The Coronet, The Alhambra and North Point

  5. Joanne is indeed British. Doh! Thanks for pointing that out.

By “they” I just meant whoever takes over the place, be it tenant or owner. Hopefully that will be someone with heart and soul. I’d LOVE to invest in it but unfortunately don’t have 2 beans to rub together. I did notice that they’ve upgraded the YMCA sign and wonder if maybe they bought it.
