Evergreen Pharmacy becomes a market; new tenant on Clement St.

Thanks to a couple of readers who tipped me off to the old Evergreen Pharmacy at Geary and 20th Avenue becoming “Evergreen Market”. According to their new awning, the market will include meats, fresh seafood, poultry and produce. From my walk by today, it looks like they’re still sprucing up the place and there are for hire signs in the window (cashiers, butcher and fish department workers needed). So probably a couple more weeks at least before they’re open for business.

And what was “Country Living” on Clement near 12th Avenue now has a plywood facade (already heavily graffiti’d, sigh) as it gets ready for its new tenants. Anyone know what’s going in there?

  1. Maybe ACE Hardware is expanding with the addition of a lumber section. This ACE hardware store has the most crowded aisles of any hardware store I have ever been in.

  2. I live nearby and had the same thought as Marty. The inside of that space is so vast/cavernous with a mezzanine that it would be a great extension of the hardware store or another large shop like when it was the furniture place. I guess we’ll see.

  3. Kind of sad that they took down the old Evergreen sign – I kind of liked it. Hard to believe there will be another market at 20th and Geary. Between Thom’s, Richmond Produce and Royal Market, you would think there was too much competition already. Hoping they have good seafood, though.

  4. The market is a disaster for the neighborhood. The smell of dead fish, rotten meat, and perished fruit fills the area. Not mentioning the parking spaces they occupy without paying anything to the city. Plus all the garbage from the store on the sidewalk. There is NO NEED for the store to be around.
Once I saw the butcher caught the dead fish from the fish tank, cleaned and wrapped it. Then put it on the shelf to sell.
    So you decide!!!!
