On June 24th at 6pm, CVS Pharmacies will be holding an Open House to discuss the proposed location of a new CVS Pharmacy store at 32nd Avenue and Clement Street. The Open House will be held at the proposed store site at 3132 Clement Street.

Prior to formally beginning the Planning Department’s approvals process, CVS Pharmacy is meeting with the community to present information about the proposed store and to listen to the neighbors’ responses and concerns. CVS is excited to reoccupy this vacant building and begin to meet their new neighbors.

  1. So, I’ve been out of the area for many years. This site was a Safeway store when I was a kid (late 60s/early 70s). Obviously that store was torn down and another built. Did Safeway rebuild and then vacate? It’s a pretty nifty building to just abandon….

  2. Just what we need, another pharmacy. I thought Trader Joe’s was looking at that spot.

  3. Wow, having a large pharmacy would be handy… since we cant’ seem to get a Target in the city, it would be nice not to only have the squished/small Walgreens to shop at.

  4. Whoa… This is my dream come true. Love CVS, hate empty storefronts. Sweet.
If we can’t have a real grocery store there, I’ll take CVS.

  5. @MamaMai – Yes, it was originally a Safeway, then rebuilt as an Albertson’s. They left the property several years ago and it’s been vacant ever since.

  6. I’m with Beth. I was crossing my fingers for TJ’s. Even a Whole Foods would be okay. CVS????

  7. Yes, I’m voting for Trader Joe’s too. Wouldn’t that be awesome! Whole Foods second.

But better CVS than an empty storefront, definitely.

  8. It is supposed to be split between CVS and a Fresh and Easy Market isn’t it?

  9. Hi Toby,

The last I heard from Supervisor Mar’s office was that Fresh & Easy was no longer interested in the property. So I think it will just be a CVS store but we’ll find out more at the meeting.

  10. That location seems to be too huge for a CVS. I too was really hoping for a TJ’s (with Whole Foods a possible second choice) but it would be nice to have an alternative to Walgreens, which is such a depressing and messy store even in the best of circumstances.

  11. While I’d love a TJ’s, CVS is ok and certainly better than an empty building. And I agree, Scott: Walgreens is depressing under the best of circumstances. It’s a good thing they don’t sell alcohol there, haha.

  12. I doubt CVS is going to occupy that gigantic building. maybe a tiny portion, if they remodel it. a real grocery store would sure be nice, but I’d say history has proven it’s a terrible remote location for any large business

  13. I wish someone would come in and make this location a health haven. A mini Whole Foods or a Rainbow Grocery Store and a center for healing and yoga with a Cafe Gratitude or some kind of super healthy restaurant and just a place where we can go to buy and do healthy things…. A girl can Dream!

  14. i definitely welcome CVS, though yes, a Trader Joe’s or a Rainbow Grocery would be at the top of my list. if CVS does come in, i’d like to see how active they are in community involvement — whether it’s sponsoring local events or pitching in some dough to ensure our lovely parks like the Lincoln Park playground don’t get mucked up w/ graffiti. anyway, whoever moves in i do hope jobs will be created for folks and the store will be a good neighbor.

  15. This seems like a large facility for a Trader Joe’s. Every one I can think of went into a space about hald the size of a typical (older generation, smaller than today’s) Safeway/Lucky/Albertson’s etc. Maybe a TJ’s combined with a smaller “pharmacy” version of a CVS/Walgreens would be ideal.

  16. In today’s Examiner there’s some more info that clarifies that CVS will only occupy a portion of the building:
    http://www.sfexaminer.com/local/CVS-maps-out-plans-for-city-stores-96776189.html

“DeAngelis said the CVS store would fill 14,000 square feet. Questions remain, however, about what will fill the remaining space at 32nd Avenue and Clement Street, which totals some 30,000 square feet.”

So in theory, something like a Trader Joe’s could share space with it. We’ll find out more on Thursday hopefully!
