Spots Unknown: Land’s End edition
The explorers over at Spots Unknown take us on a walk at Land’s End to a place few of us have probably seen. Don’t miss the blooper reel at the end.
And before anyone comments on it: no, this is not my endorsement to ignore posted warning signs…

Ah yes, i’ve absolutely taken that route! There was a spot where the trail turned around the bend, a corner out of the cliffside trail which had been cleared out, with human figures graffiti’d on the retaining wall. Amazing to sit there at sunset, it truly felt like you were at the edge of the world.
Not as scary as the middle aged guys smiling at you from the bushes on the upper trail.
Walk all around there before, way before the posted warnings and “fenced off areas” simply sublime!
Oh! And after that blooper I’m surprised the guy had the guts to continue with the rock hopping!! LOL! Mr. Grace!!
yes, the fence was more dangerous than the cliff it was “protecting” me from.
Oh, yeah, I loved that old ‘social’ trail down to the old military (?) bathroom (that gets repainted monthly with new and colorful interpretations of the moment). The only caution on that trail: poison oak. Lots of poison oak.
yeah, does anyone know what that bathroom (i guess it was a shower room) was attached to?
The restroom was build by contractor DeLuca & Son. Inc around 1935 and was part of a WPA trail system, near a refreshment station operated by one Charles L. Harris “The Mayor of Lands End”, who sold beverages in the vicinity of the old Lands End train station, living with his wife Emily in an abandoned cable car. The convenience building and its septic tank started sliding downhill in 1941, and the structure is now on the water’s edge…
Really interesting, Wolfgang, thanks for the info. I think I’ll have to go check it out!
