Photos: Inside the Holy Virgin Cathedral on Geary

It’s been on my list for awhile now to go inside the Holy Virgin Russian Orthodox Cathedral at 6210 Geary. So I appreciated seeing these interior photos taken by Number Two Son / John.

Have you spent time inside the Cathedral?

  1. Can you just walk into the cathedral at any time or does it have to be during service or visiting hours?

I have always wanted to go in but never know protocol!

  2. Well, their site has a very detailed (and handy) etiquette page:

In their FAQ (http://www.sfsobor.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=74&Itemid=82&lang=en) it says:

Q: When is the Cathedral opened for visiting?
A: Besides the services themselves, typically, the Cathedral is opened about 20-30 minutes before and after services. Outside of this window special arrangements need to be made beforehand by contacting one of the priests directly by telephone/email (see Contacts section) or submit a “Needs Request” form online (“Schedule > Needs Request” on the menu). We are working on having one day during the week when the Cathedral is opened to the public. Once details have been finalized they will be published, until then please continue to contact the priests to make arrangements to visit the cathedral outside the normal service schedule.

Hmm, maybe I should arrange a tour for readers. Anyone interested?

  3. OK, I’ll look into it. I imagine there would be a few people interested. Stay tuned!
