Perfect your bocce and cornhole at Ireland’s 32; leagues start in January

Local bar Ireland’s 32 (3920 Geary between 3rd & 4th Avenues) hosts an interesting sports league two nights a week. Nope, it’s not beer poing or that shuffleboard game that uses way too much margarita salt.

It’s bocce ball (toss the big ball at the little ball) and cornhole (thrown a bean bag into a hole). DogDaze Leisure Sports Leagues started up a Thursday night league that has become very popular, so they’ve expanded it to Wednesday nights too. Normally the games are outdoors but in the winter months, it’s indoor bocce and cornhole.

You can sign up as a single person, or pull together 5 or 6 friends for a full team. The league lasts 7 weeks and games are either on Wednesday or Thursday night at 6:30, 7:30 or 8:30. The cost is $49 per person for a league session which includes a t-shirt and bar specials at Ireland’s 32.

The league has been very popular and organizer Brent tells me, “People seem to be very interested in playing bocce & cornhole. Or more likely, they are excited to have an excuse to hang out at the bar.”

To find out more about the league, including how to sign up, visit the Dog Daze website. The next Thursday league starts January 13; Wednesday league starts January 26.

And in case you were wondering, there is a American Cornhole Association – visit their site for full rules so you know what you’re getting into. 😉
