CAPTAIN RICHARD CORREIA’S MESSAGE
In the early evening hours of December 29, 2009 a robbery occurred on the 100 block of 9th Avenue. You may recall the crime since it was particularly violent and I have written about it several times during the past year. Just after dark on that rainy Tuesday night last year a suspect entered an open garage and accosted a man in his early sixties whose vehicle was parked in the garage. The suspect struck the victim several times and continued the assault even as the victim was surrendering his property. The victim was seriously injured during the robbery. Members of Richmond Station’s plain clothes and investigative details conducted a detailed investigation which ultimately led to the arrest of a suspect, Mr. Charles M. Ryan, Jr. The district attorney charged Mr. Ryan with the robbery and assault, and the case has been working its way through the courts since early 2010. Mr. Ryan has been in custody since his arrest. On December 29, 2010 Mr. Ryan was held to answer for his crimes after a lengthy preliminary hearing. This means that a judge determined that there was sufficient evidence to bound Mr. Ryan over for trial. I will keep you posted on this case as it continues through the judicial system.

Our next Police Community Forum is on January 18, 2010 at 7:00 pm at Richmond Station. In addition to discussing public safety and crime prevention issues, we will be giving a tour of the station.
