Fresh & Easy introduces itself to San Francisco

In a matter of months, Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market will be opening a location at the former Albertson’s at 3132 Clement near 32nd Avenue.

Fresh & Easy held a PR event in the Presidio on Wednesday night, inviting neighbors, media and suppliers to come learn more about the chain and mark their official arrival in Northern California. Earlier that day, Fresh & Easy opened their first two locations in San Jose and Danville.

Fresh & Easy is part of Tesco, a global grocery and general merchandising retailer headquartered in the UK. They’re the third largest retailer in the world.

The market’s emphasis is on what its name infers – fresh foods and easy shopping. They get high marks from their Southern California customers for offering grocery basics at affordable prices along with fresh, prepared foods and meals.

Fresh & Easy plans to open 12 more locations in Northern California this year, including one in Hunter’s Point and the one here in the Richmond District. No word yet on exactly when the Richmond location will open, but the building has been undergoing a facelift and the market is hiring.

Fresh & Easy will be sharing the 3132 Clement building with CVS Pharmacy.

On my way out from the event on Wednesday night, I received a gift bag of groceries filled with products from a Fresh & Easy market. Granola bars, nuts, ground coffee, a bake & serve baguette, tikki masala sauce, some fruit jelly candies, and the largest belgian chocolate bar I’ve ever held in my hands. I’m sure the food bloggers at the event will have a ball with all the loot. 😉

With the closing of Delano’s on Geary, the Fresh & Easy can’t open soon enough. As soon as I hear about an opening date, I will let you know here on the blog.
