The Great Blue Herons are nesting and raising their chicks at Stow Lake right now, but RichmondSFBlog reader Elijah ran into this beauty on a hike through the Presidio weekend. I love how it mirrors the bridge towers.

What is the Heron walking on?
@Jean – A special great blue heron red carpet perhaps? 😉 I think it’s that netting they sometimes lay down before planting or to prevent erosion?

Only in SF would you see a heron walking along as if it were a person! I love it-
it was the black netting they put down to help the grass grow cause a-holes like me keep walking through to take pictures… (-;
i had a 10 month old strapped to my back and this gorgeous bird let us walk right up to within 10 feet of it.
