Lindy in the Park celebrates 15 years of dancing in GGP, Sunday

If you’ve been on JFK Drive near the Music Concourse in Golden Gate Park on a Sunday, then you may have come across a lot of happy people dancing, twirling and laughing. That’s the weekly dance event known as Lindy in the Park, and this Sunday they’ll celebrate their 15th birthday with a potluck picnic and extended dancing hours.

From 11am until 3pm, the Lindy in the Park crew will be out providing great music and free swing dance lessons. When I started the blog, Lindy in the Park was one of the first things I visited and made a video for (above). It’s a really fun gathering that is as welcoming to newcomers as they are to veterans. Even people with two left feet have a good time.

Here’s the schedule for Sunday’s festivities:
11:00am-3:00pm+: Music & Dancing & Potluck Picnic
12:00pm-12:30pm: Free Beginner Swing Dance Lesson with Hep Jen

To check it out, listen for the swing music and watch for dancers on the south sidewalk area along John F. Kennedy Drive between the de Young Museum and the north entrance to the Music Concourse. If you walk in off Fulton at 10th Avenue, you can’t miss them.

Happy birthday Lindy in the Park!

  1. These are fun, but definitely a little intimidating for folks like me who don’t know Lindy – many of the people there are very good. Bring a friend and catch the lesson, though, and you’re sure to have a good Sunday. 🙂

  2. Jen, the woman who runs this, is in the pic. Shes a great teacher and actually lives in the Richmond. This is a fantastic event.
