St. Monica’s Church celebrates 100 years with a special mass this Sunday

This Sunday marks the 100th anniversary of St. Monica’s Catholic Church, located on Geary at 23rd Avenue.

They’ll celebrate their centennial with a special mass this Sunday at 10:30am, led by Bishop Robert McElroy with Pastor Fr. John Greene.

RichmondSFBlog reader Sue tells me that “Representative Pelosi, Senator Feinstein and Assemblywoman Fiona Ma have all created proclamations in honor of the event.”

For you history buffs out there, it’s the church parish that is turning 100 years old; the building on Geary was built in the 1920s. St. Monica’s held its first mass at a store front on 27th Avenue and Geary in 1911. More on St. Monica’s history

Happy 100th anniversary to St. Monica’s and its parishioners!

  1. I love that they have a real bell and know how to use it.
(With a wheel and a rope that probably lifts the bellringer off the ground).
