BOO! Halloween is almost upon us and events are kicking off here in the neighborhood (most of them family-friendly). So gather family and friends – in your best costumes of course – to celebrate!
Happy Halloween to all!

Moved here last year just after Halloween. I have a couple of questions: Do kids typically Trick or Treat in the Central Richmond (want to make sure I have enough treats)? Also, does anyone know of places in our ‘hood that are doing adults-only events for Halloween weekend (aside from the Academy of Science event on Thurs).
mucho thanks!
melissa
@mel – Yes, kids definitely trick or treat in the Richmond District! The “hot” spots are along Lake Street (6th ave to about 25th Avenue) and Sea Cliff. This video will give you a taste of the Lake Street scene which is a lot of fun. Families dress up, kids walking around in costumes.

If you’re not located in those areas, your trick or treat traffic will be pretty low, even nonexistent. When I first moved back to the neighborhood I put out my pumpkin and was all ready with candy – but no dice.
As for adult events, there is a Venetian Masquerade Ball next Friday night at the de Young. Info here:

Hey Folks,
The Richmond District YMCA Halloween event will actually take place on Friday 10/28 from 5:30PM-8PM.
The halloween scene in sea cliff is like nothing I have ever seen. The decorations are truly amazing and first class, last year there must have been over 500 people trick or treating in the neighborhood. This is what halloween is really all about, door after door of decor and full size quality candy, taking my two sons trick or treating here will definently be a lasting tradition. This is worth putting on the list as this is a halloween mainstay and a rare expireance.
The gardeners at the Richmond’s Argonne Community Garden between Cabrillo and Fulton, with entrances on 15th and 16th avenues, are welcoming families and giving out treats on Halloween evening just after dusk. All neighborhood children are welcome.
Thanks, Laura. I added the Argonne event to the post.

Hi, the park chalet says The Shining is on Monday night, yes?

@Jesse – Ok, just called Park Chalet and confirmed with the hostess that it is Friday at 9pm (and not on Halloween night, 10/31). She said they’ll make the fix on their website as well.
