Neighborhood parks get a boost from Rec & Park Community Opportunity Fund

Last week, the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department announced plans to award more than $1 million of their Community Opportunity Fund (COF) to ten different neighborhood projects across the city; three of them are right here in the Richmond District.

The San Francisco Lawn Bowling Club in Golden Gate Park will receive $171,702 to make renovations, including an accessibility upgrade to one of their greens.

In November 2010, the Lincoln Park Steps project reached its first milestone by completing the tiling of the bench at the top of the stairs. They’ll be receiving an additional $183,103 from the Community Fund to continue with the beautification project (more info).

And the little park that could, Muriel Leff Mini Park on 7th Avenue between Geary and Anza, will receive $7,000 to construct a new pathway through the park, described as “an important path connection in an underutilized area of the park.”

The Rec & Park Community Opportunity Fund program is funded by the 2008 Clean and Safe Parks General Obligation Bond. The $5 million capital program allows residents, neighborhood groups, and park advocates to initiate capital improvements in their parks by matching public funding with other private gifts and grants.
