  1. Seriously, with all the real issues in our District, Mar is wasting time and agenda item to discuss his displeasure with the Grammy categories??? Isn’t there an online forum or written petition in which he can join/sign?

    When does campaigning begin for the elections of a new Supervisor?

  3. Lol, that Eric Mar…always good for a laugh. As long as he’s wasting his time on ridiculousness, i’d like to see him introduce a resolution in support of limiting work weeks to 21 hours…..binding, of course. Now, THAT I can get behind.

  8. Perhaps Supervisor Mar’s office would like to explain why he’s wasting his time and our taxpayer’s money dealing with a resolution about the Grammies. The Richmond District has big problems, and Mar is focusing on the Grammies. How come? When I voted for him, I thought he wanted to help District 1. Guess I was wrong. Come on, Mr. Mar, what’s up???

    The homeless population in the Richmond is exploding
    The streets are riddled with potholes
    There are close to twenty empty storefronts on Geary between Masonic and Park Presidio.

    And Eric Mar is spending time on useless resolutions that have no relevance to the Richmond?

    It’s time to organize to vote him out.

  11. What a waste of time. The streets of outer Richmond are literally littered with feces (dog and human) and this clown is worried about his Grammy nominations? Hey Eric, here’s a suggestion, why don’t you start a Grammy dream nomination game on Yahoo (yes much like fantasy football etc) and start fixing up the Richmond? I didn’t vote for him. I got an eyeful of his bad taste when he was a useless prop at SFUSD Board. Sorry for the folks who were fooled and thought he would actually do something.

    Who is running against him? Joanna Rees? Please someone credible!

Mar has been too busy helping McDonald’s be able to charge for toys people used to give away for free, trying to prevent neighbors from closing down a dangerous spot late at night, telling the music recording industry what to do, and scurrying to figure out WTF to do, now that he won’t be able to hide under Mirkarimi’s abundant hair now that it’s gone down in flames.

  13. Re. Supervisor Mar’s resolution to expand Grammy awards categories, seems there’s a bigger story here. Many people, including musicians Paul Simon and Carlos Santana, as well as activist Jesse Jackson, are unhappy that the awards discriminate against some minority groups. Perhaps the reaction to Mr. Mar’s resolution would have been different if he’d explained the context.

  14. Jean, I agree the categories should not be eliminated, but I doubt it is intentional racism. It is more of an issue of dollars. Face it, the Grammys, like the other countless award shows of the season, bring in dollars due to viewers. The eliminated categories are those that typically have smaller fan bases. Regardless, there has to be a better way for the National Academy to balance the trade-offs of having “less popular” categories and still garner ad dollars during broadcast and related events.

    But, this better method is not something that SF governing e can dictate, so it should not be an agenda item during supervisors’ meetings, especially as a non-binding resolution. These types of resolutions are merely self-congratulatory. Mr. Mar and all of the other supervisors are more than welcome to support this issue on their own time (I would get behind this), but do not use board meetings for such measures.

  15. I agree with Mel that Supervisor’s should not spend precious meeting time dealing with issues such as Grammy Awards categories. But at least now we know why Supervisor Mar brought it up. While it’s not frivolous, Mel’s right that the Supervisors have to draw a line about which issues they’re going to pay attention to, and this one falls on the wrong side of that line.
