A 70 year voting streak is still intact

The photo above is of Sally, a 96-year young Richmond District resident that blog reader (and cub reporter) David H. ran into on the 38 Geary bus today.

“I could tell she was in some distress so I asked her where she was headed. She said she was on her way to vote,” David said.

He rode out with Sally to the polling place at SFFD station 34, at 41st Avenue and Point Lobos Avenue. A lifelong Democrat, Sally said she just had to vote,

Otherwise she would break her 70 year streak of voting in local elections.

After receiving some brief medical attention and a supply of oxygen, pollsters got Sally checked in and prepared her ballots. After she cast her votes, the paramedics took her off for more medical attention.

We hear Sally is doing well, and so is her voting record. 😉

We hope that you made it to the polls today!

  1. What an awesome commitment to participating in our democratic process. It stands out in stark contrast to the just 23.13% of registered voters who made the effort in SF in this election. And a big shout out to David H. for disrupting his agenda to help with Sally’s and to ensure she was all right. That is community.

  2. What a great lady! Kudos to your cub reporter that not only helped her, but also got the story. This is why I like your blog so much – the real news of SF.

  3. I find it disrespectful that you keep referring to David as a “cub” reporter.
You’re not a professional reporter. Neither is he (what makes one so?), but nonetheless he’s more than a “cub” considering what he always contributes and how much he cares about the neighborhood.

“Field Reporter”, “Richmond Reporter”, or something of the sort, better suits your loyal blog contributors.

  4. Hi Westender – That is actually David’s preferred “nom de plume”. In fact I left it out once and he demanded it get put it! 🙂

  5. @westender- Thanks I do like the cub monicker Long live Jimmy Olson!
