CAPTAIN ERIC VINTERO’S MESSAGE
Today will be my last day as Captain of Richmond Station. This month, the SFPD will see the retirement of a large number of Captains. As a result, there will be lots of transfers and movement of personnel. When I learned of the upcoming openings at the night captain position, I requested to be considered for the job. The hours work well with my family situation, and will allow me the opportunity to spend more quality time with my wife and 5 young children. I am excited about this new chapter in my career.

It has been my great honor to serve as the Captain of Richmond Station for the past 6 months. The Officers at Richmond Station are some of the finest and most professional officers that I have ever worked with. I have really enjoyed working with all of the residents, merchants, and various community groups to identify and solve problems in the district.

Captain Sharon Ferrigno will be taking over as the Captain of Richmond Station. Captain Ferrigno is a 28-year veteran of the San Francisco Police Department and comes with a wealth of operational, investigative, and administrative experience. Captain Ferrigno will definitely be an asset to the Richmond Police District.

Our next Community meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at 7pm. It will be in the Community Room, here at Richmond Station, 461 6th Ave.

Numerous officers arrived and canvassed the area. One of the officers could see the suspect in a backyard on 17th Ave and ordered him to stop. The male took of running through the backyards and was then seen on the roof of a building on the 5400 block of California St . The male then walked out of that apartment building and tried to get to his vehicle to flee the scene. He was detained by the officers as was the female occupant of the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect dropped the bike and fled south on 22nd Ave. At 7:40pm officers located the suspect on the 100 block of 23rd Ave and at this time he was riding a bike. Through their investigation it was determined that the bike he was currently on had been taken from a garage on the 300 block of 26th Ave earlier in the evening. (see noteworthy incidents). She parked her vehicle and went inside. A short time later she entered her garage and heard someone in the front entry way. The door to the garage then opened and she saw a white male with curly light brown or blonde hair wearing glasses, standing there. When he saw her he said “Hi” and walked out the front door. She then saw that the bikes belonging to the other tenants were missing from the garage. One of the bikes was located later on when the suspect was arrested on 23rd Ave.

  1. It seems like the Richmond gets a new captain every few months. Hard to generate much community support with this revolving door scenario. This last one wrote a column about how thrilled he was to be the captain in the Richmond, where he grew up. Easy come, easy go….wonder how long this one will be here.

  2. When I read these every week, I can’t help but stop and think what ever comes of these people being charged. Almost always, they are violating a probation, or being charged with narcotics possession and so forth. Basically, repeat offenders. How long does this have to continue for actual meaningful action to be taken? Seems like they get the charges, but nothing ever comes of it.

  3. Hard to say Dan (/s). When Hallinan was DA, I got called to jury duty every year for many, many years. I was *never* called when Harris was DA and was called once when Gascon began his tenure. Since then, nothing. My suspicion is that it is all catch-and-release. Would be better if release was in these miscreants’ hometowns (not SF).

I hope our new Captain works hard with the new Park Station Captain as I have the feeling the usual mess of troublemakers will merely migrate.

  4. This crime info might be helpful to some but.,,, we check this blog and the ‘police blotter’ posts are too often and too long – perhaps make it an external link or title-only post that you click to see the rest?

    Thanks!

  5. So wait…what did seeing this “suspicious African American male” have to do with the break-in the final post? :\

  6. I disagree with Boris. To me, the police blotter posts are the most useful thing on the blog. (Note I didn’t say the most enjoyable – I prefer to read about new shops and restaurants and parks and events the most.) Good site!

  7. Phil: I expressed a point of view about an item in the post. If you have a different point of view, fine, but at least make the effort to come up with the words to express your point of view. “Give it a rest” contributes absolutely nothing to the discussion.

  8. Renee: Apparently, you got the gist of my note. It’s obvious from your response. enough said. Is that enough words for you?

  9. Has anyone in the inner richmond had any run-ins with the newest crazy in the area? A middle-aged Asian woman who consistently walks around the Arguello/Clement area (and possibly further) screaming curses at the top of her lungs?
