CAPTAIN SHARON FERRIGNO’S MESSAGE
September has been a busy month in the Richmond District, our officers made numerous arrests for car break ins and robberies. Street robberies of electronic devices are on the rise nationwide and the Richmond District is no exception. Citywide there has been an up tick in smart phone and tablet robberies. I encourage you to purchase an application to safeguard and locate your device if it is lost or stolen. If consumers purchase the applications and the thefts are no longer profitable we can expect to see a decrease in these street robberies. Please pay attention to your surroundings when using your electronic device. The attached link explains a few anti-theft applications that are available.

Last weekend Richmond Police Station personnel participated in the Project SAFE (Safety Awareness For Everyone)’s Cops and Joggers Fund-raiser. SAFE is a non-profit that works closely with the SFPD, community member’s and business groups to promote public safety, conduct safety assessments and work with neighborhood watch groups. Richmond Station won first place in the raffle sales and our prize is a much needed piece of gym equipment.

The following members of Richmond Station were recognized by the Police Commission for their acts of heroism. Congratulations to:

  1. Not sure how new this is, but I noticed today (9.28) a lot of triangular-shaped pink graffiti on my way down 26th AVE from Fulton towards Geary: on walls, vans, etc.
It didn’t look like the typical mindless scribble.
I hope some gang is not moving in on our Westend.
Be vigilant out there. Carry wasp spray. Longer range.
    When will the self-destruct i-phones be available…

  2. I am going to keep bringing up surveillance cameras on the police posting forum. One victim was at a major intersection; another was at a bus terminal. Cameras at that bus terminal would have been an aid is identifying the scum that stabbed the victim.

Instead, what we hear from people is “I don’t want to be watched”. My response: be watched by stalking criminals, who have little fear at the moment of being caught – or be watched by surveillance, which might act as a bit of deterrent, and would largely help in the identification of the worthless scum who perpetrate these crimes.

As for the graffiti, that’s another reason for cameras. Sure, some of the jerks that paint walls wear hoodies, but some don’t.

    Be careful out there!

  3. So yesterday I noticed a man right inside the park at the end of Haight street where all the homeless people encamp. This guy had a shopping cart full of bicycle wheels. He had so many wheels that he had some leaned up against the building where he was, next to his bedroll.. Many of these looked like new wheels.

The only reason someone would have these wheels is if they either stole them from people’s bikes, or if they got the wheels from people who stole them. This guy was clearly not a bicycle repair person.

What are the cops doing over there? i realize it’s not the Richmond district, but it’s literally right outside of that district.

Can the cops PLEASE check this guy out…bicycle thefts are surging and many people’s main form of transportation to and from work and school are disrupted when wheels are stolen. This guy should not be hard to find.
