Police release photo of Geary bank robbery suspects; ask public for help

Right after the New Year, on January 4, two men walked into the First Republic Bank at 6001 Geary near 24th Avenue, and committed a robbery.

The first suspect held the bank employees at gun point demanding money while the second suspect stayed by the entrance doors. The employees complied and the two suspects fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspects were last seen getting into a dark colored vehicle after the robbery.

On Tuesday, SFPD released the first photos of the two suspects (seen above), obtained from surveillance video inside the bank.

Both suspects are identified as black males. One suspect is believed to be 6’01”, 230-250 lbs, 30-35 years old, dark beard (possibly fake beard). He was last seen wearing a blue and black checkered long sleeve shirt, a black Orlando Magic hat, black shoulder bag, and holding a handgun.

The second suspect is believed to be 5-06”, and was last seen wearing a white and black checkered hooded jacket.

Anyone with information about the January 4, 2013 robbery is urged to contact the San Francisco Police Major Crimes Unit at (415) 553-1201, the SFPD Anonymous Tip line, 415-575-4444, or Text-a-Tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD.

It’s not the first trip to the robbery rodeo for that 6001 Geary location. In 2004, a male in his 40’s stole about $5,000. And back in 1997, three armed men in ski masks made off with $50,000 when it was United Savings Bank. Kind of a head scratcher why First Republic would move in there – they must be really well insured!

  1. As a former 7-Eleven employee I’d have been thrilled to have only been robbed three times in the last 16 years!

In all seriousness, I’m glad something is in that location and it wasn’t blocked like all the other vacant buildings along Geary. I wonder what is going to go in to the old space? I mean other than Mar-approved nothing? 😉
