Restaurant closings: Be My Guest Thai Bistro, Jersey’s Sandwiches

Change is in the air again among the restaurants in the Richmond District. We got word this week that two places will be closing down, but will be taken over by new eateries.

Be My Guest Thai Bistro on the corner of Clement and 11th Avenue is currently closed. A sign on the door mentions that Shabu Cafe will be coming soon. Shabu seems to be the new black in the neighborhood. Another new shabu place is slated to open on the corner of 5th and Clement soon.

Jersey’s Sandwiches, purveyor of East Coast style sandwiches, will also be closing down after two years. We’ve been a big fan of their sandwiches and the couple, Erick and Shannon, that run it (they’re leaving SF). So if you want one last Hot Pastrami, Turkey Club or Cheesesteak in your belly, stop by Jersey’s before March 24.

Erick had this to say about Jersey’s moment in Richmond District history:

We’ve truly enjoyed our time in the Inner Richmond, it is a great neighborhood with great people and community feel. After 2 years in business, we’ve accomplished what we set out to when we opened in March 2011. The Inner Richmond people and community have been great to us and we’ve built some lasting relationships. Not only did many seem to enjoy and appreciate the food we produce, but generally wish us well as people. We know that you will give the same sort of welcome to the new tenants.

Rumor has it that a Mexican eatery will be taking over Jersey’s space at 200 6th Avenue. If we get more details, we’ll let you know.

Thanks to readers Kiralaura, Shannon and Pete for the tips.

  1. Sad about Jerseys, it was nice to have a non-asian option in the ‘hood! I hope it is a mexican place that takes their place.

  2. http://avesf.com/ maybe closed before they opened, their sign and bright red paint have disappeared from the building at the NW corner of 25th/Balboa 🙁

  3. Nooo! As if Haig’s closing wasn’t enough of a loss to Clement, Be My Guest too?! Oh well, then, back to Vanida.

  4. Damn, Be My Guest was the only non-generic Thai place in the neighborhood. We faithfully ordered takeout for years. I don’t know why the hood can support two King of Thai Noodle and 5 generic Chinese places, but the “California Thai” of Be My Guest resulted in a perma-empty restaurant.
