NOTEWORTHY ARRESTS
On 06/21/13 at 6:35am, a 31 year old male was arrested for breaking into a home on the 100 block of 24th Ave. On 06/26/13 at 5:55am, on the unit block of West Clay, a resident awoke to the sound of glass breaking and found the suspect in a downstairs room. The suspect fled the scene. The description matched the suspect from June 21st. On 07/05/13 at 7:15am on the 100 block of 24th Ave, the victim found the suspect sleeping in an outside carport area. He chased him off but told the officers that the suspect had slept out there several times in the past. The suspect matched the description of all the other incidents. On 07/07/13 at 5:38am, the same caller from July 5th called to say the suspect was again sleeping in his carport. Officers arrived and took the suspect into custody. On 07/10/13 officers were called back to the 100 block of 24th Ave (same address at June 21st) as the victim found the suspect sleeping in his backyard. The suspect was detained and officers determined that he also had a warrant for his arrest for not appearing in court for his original arrest on 06/21/13. He was charged with trespassing and the warrant.

On 06/25/13 at 8pm, there was a robbery on a MUNI bus that occurred on Fulton at 6th Ave. At that time one female juvenile was taken into custody, one male was detained, and one Asian female had fled. Video was requested by the investigating officer and an Alert Bulletin was sent out to SFPD officers with a photo of the Asian female who fled the scene. On 06/30/13 two officers from Tenderloin Station spotted the female on the unit block of Turk St. The 17 year old who was also on probation and had two outstanding warrants for her arrest was taken into custody and charged with robbery.

On 07/06/13 at 12:55am, officers were called to Balboa and Arguello on a call of a male that had just broken a window of a vehicle. The caller then reported that the suspect had just gotten on a 31 Balboa MUNI line headed outbound. The officers located the bus at 8th Ave and Balboa and detained the male who was intoxicated. The 20yr old male was combative and fought with the officers. The officers spoke with the caller who stated that they had heard yelling outside and when they looked out the window they could see the suspect banging on the glass of the MUNI shelter with his fist. There were several other people with the suspect who were trying to stop him. The suspect then started kicking the garbage can and eventually broke the window of the vehicle. The suspect was charged with vandalism, resisting arrest and being under the influence.

On 07/06/13 at 5:45am, officers were called to a report of a burglary in progress on the 500 block of 7th Ave. The victims were reporting that they heard their garage door open and could hear someone in the garage. When officers arrived the garage door was open about a foot and a half and they could also hear the sounds of someone inside. The suspect heard the officers and broke a window to escape into the backyard. Officers made their way to the yard through an alley and heard the sound of breaking glass north of where they were. The suspect had broken a rear window to another house; two north of the original call, ran through the residence and out the front door. Other officers who were responding located the suspect as he ran north on 7th Ave towards Anza. He was taken into custody by the officers. Inside his backpack were numerous tools and gloves. When the officers and the victims conducted a walk-thru of the garage they found that the suspect had gone through the garage and packed up numerous items and placed them into bags. This included tools, shoes, beverages, a cell phone and a bag of chocolate. The 21 year old male was charged with burglary, vandalism and possession of burglary tools.

On 07/07/13 at 2am on the 300 block of 19th Ave, officers responded to a call of a citizen trying to detain a burglary suspect. When they arrived the victim told the officers that the suspect had gotten away and she was walking west on Geary towards 20th Ave. Officer located the suspect at 20th and Geary. She told the officers that she was just looking for a place to sleep and broke into the building to do so. The victim told the officer that he was in his apartment and heard the sound of the main door to the building slam shut. As he went down to the lobby he saw the suspect enter the lobby from the garage and attempt to leave. The victim tried to block her way and said that he was calling the police. The woman then defecated and urinated on the lobby floor in an attempt to make the victim leave. The victim went outside to the front and the suspect fled, leaving behind her bag and a bicycle. Officer located a pliers, a screwdriver and bolt cutters in her bag. The 41 year old female was charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools.

NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS
On 07/05/13 at 11am, the residents of a home on the 300 block of 27th Ave, came home and found that the security chain was securing the door from the inside. The owners did not engage the chain when they left at 8:30am. Officers arrived and found that the back door was open and items had been taken from the home including cash and jewelry. There were no signs of forced entry into the residence.

On 07/06/13, between 10pm and 11pm on the 2800 block of Clay St. a garage door was accidentally left open. The suspect entered and took a bike, a conga drum and a speaker.

On 07/09/13 at 1:20pm, the victim was on a 38 Geary MUNI bus line, inbound. She was watching videos on her phone near the rear exit door. When the bus got to the stop at Geary and Park Presidio the suspect grabbed the phone from her hand and fled the bus. He was described as a Hispanic male, 18-22yrs, wearing a white shirt and black pants.

On 07/09/13 between 10:30pm and 11pm on the 3300 block of Clay St, a suspect entered a residence several times through an unlocked back door and took cash, passports, a laptop and an iPad. The victims alarm application on the phone alerted them to the door being opened, but believing it was a roommate, didn’t check the door. When they awoke in the morning, they realized that their property was missing.

  1. The tree vandal should not be allowed in the park… ever!!! As part of his punishment.

  2. More dumb people on cell phones . . . I have almost no sympathy for them. I used to try and alert them to their situation, but now I just kinda laugh after too many of them looked at me, like I was some kind of freak, or about to actually rip them off . . . stupid people deserve their fates.

Still, I am amazed that MUNI and the SFPD do not do more from a media/warning standpoint. Those small, dark, ominous posters you see on muni . . . who reads them . . . and the announcements that come over the PA on the buses . . . there’s nothing about paying attention to your surroundings, but then, who would hear it, since all the people with their cell phones out are all jacked into their earphones, just begging any kid to go ahead, please take my phone.

You’d also think that people who invest so much into their phones––like they’d be lost without them–would just be a little more cautious . . . .

  3. Bob, Blaming the victim, are we? Look, NOBODY should be stealing a phone. Every citizen has the right to expect that s/he will be safe from crime. Yes, a little caution goes a long way – it’s a dangerous world out there. Still, how about a little sympathy for someone who is a victim of a crime. Why aren’t you writing here about what scum the thieves are! I want every one of those punks caught; in fact, bring back the public pillory! I want to see their punk faces displayed for 1-2 days, where the community can shame and embarrass them!

  4. “The woman then defecated and urinated on the lobby floor in an attempt to make the victim leave.” Charming.
