Medieval Archery event, Dahlia Show in Golden Gate Park – August 17 & 18

This post is appealing to all the medieval flower lovers out there 😉 This Saturday, Golden Gate Park is hosting two wildly different events…

DEBARDCHERY | AUGUST 17
Out at the archery range just inside the entrance at Fulton and 47th Avenue is Debardchery, a free Medieval Archery & Bardic event hosted by the the San Francisco Chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism. The event runs from 10am until 5pm.

It is their annual celebration of mirth, merriment, archery and the bardic arts. The event features an archery tournament starting at 11:30am (traditional bows only! NO compound, NO crossbows, NO broad-head arrows), an Archer’s Auction, and a potluck lunch (based on your last name, bring: A-J: side/salad; K-R: dessert; S-Z: main dish. Dishes or food from medieval times (600 C.E. – 1599 C.E.) are especially welcome.)

There is also a Bardic (poetry, song, music, skit) tournament in the afternoon, and this year’s theme is “Womanly Virtues”. Plus silly games suitable for adults and kids.

The event theme is medieval so attendees are encouraged to dress in medieval or Renaissance fare garb. But if your closet is lacking, free medieval loaner tunics and/or accessories are available on site. For more information about the event, contact yarewe_sf@yahoo.com.

DAHLIA SOCIETY SHOW | AUGUST 17 & 18
On Saturday and Sunday, the County Fair Building (near 9th & Lincoln) will host the Dahlia Society of California’s annual exhibition and show. Admission is free.

The show opens at 10am on both days, and runs until 5pm on Saturday, 4pm on Sunday. Come out to see beautiful dahlias grown by amateurs and pros alike, as they compete for top honors.

For more information, call (415) 994-2448.
