ACE Hardware moving into former Citikids location at 3rd & Clement

Longtime tenant Citikids moved out of 144 Clement on the corner of 3rd Avenue this summer, and neighbors were concerned about who would move into the large space that was also the original home of Lombardi’s Sports.

Turns out it will be ACE Hardware, which is currently located at 1019 Clement near 12th Avenue. The store is packed to the gills with over 20,000 hardware and houseware SKU’s that stretch from floor to the ceiling in the packed store. To say they could use more space is an understatement.

ACE has been near 12th Avenue for 28 years, and expects to open at their new 114 Clement Street location in February 2014, as a “Home Improvement Center”.

In addition to more space for nuts, bolts, lightbulbs and the like, ACE will gain parking spaces in front for their customers – a big score.

No word yet on who will take over the 1019 Clement space one ACE departs.

  1. For those who don’t already know, the True Value at 335 Clement, though smaller, is usually significantly cheaper.

  2. Glad they are moving into a bigger space – they are always so helpful in there!

  3. I understand their wanting more space, but the new site is less convenient for me. I’ll probably end up at True Value, as it’ll be what I pass first if walking east, or at the Ace at 25th & Geary, which is now closest, if walking west. But I wish them well.

  4. Maybe the Sunday Farmer’s Market on Clement is helping to revitalize some of the empty stores in that area. I’m sure the relocated ACE will get a lot of foot traffic on Sundays.

  5. I’m sure the True Value is cheaper. But, they rarely have what I’m looking for. The selection is pretty poor and the service is not so good either. I’m looking forward to being closer to the Ace!

  6. I’m glad we have Ace and True, I also think the move is EXCELLENT for business.

  7. This is great news! I like both stores and find them useful for different items and levels of help. Happy to have them both in the neighborhood.

  8. Locals will recall Lombardi’s Sports was there before it moved to Polk and Citikids moved in. I’m glad they found a tenant. The Std. Brands store at 26th and Geary is owned by the persons.
