“Diary of a Teenage Girl” films at Clement Street’s Hamburger Haven

Last month, actor Alexander Skarsgård and his impressive legs were seen filming at Ocean Beach for a new indie film called “Diary of a Teenage Girl”, based on a graphic novel of the same name by Phoebe Gloeckner. The film also stars Kristen Wiig and British actress Bel Powley.

The story takes place in 1970s San Francisco, so what better place to travel back several decades than Hamburger Haven? Its interior, replete with faux wood, paneled walls and laminate counters, looks like it’s stuck in a time warp.

Reader Derek walked by the shooting on Tuesday and provided us with pics. He noted trailers on set for two of the cast members – Madeleine Waters as ‘Kimmie’ and Bel Powley as ‘Minnie’ – but did not see any sign of big stars Skarsgård or Wiig (one Skarsgård superfan tweeted to tell us he wrapped his role last week).

SFWeekly sent a (very patient) writer out to watch the production for the day starting at 10:26am, no doubt hoping for another glimpse of Skarsgård in his short shorts and tube socks. But all she encountered were vintage 70s sedans parked outside the diner, bored cops and polite security guards. And some extras dressed in 70s flair.

All filming took place inside the diner and wrapped at 6:24pm.

It seems our west side beaches and restaurants are becoming popular with Hollywood. Woody Allen shot scenes for Blue Jasmine at Gaspare’s Pizzeria on Geary and Ocean Beach in Summer 2012.

  1. Nothing more boring than watching a film shoot–and activity for which the expression “like watching paint dry” was coined.
