Richmond Republic Draught House to open soon on Clement in old Haig’s space

The proprietors of Chomp N’ Swig, the beer and sandwich spot on Clement near 17th Avenue, posted this sneak peek photo of their new venture on Facebook.

It will be called the Richmond Republic Draught House and will open soon in the old Haig’s Delicatessen space at 642 Clement Street.

The space has been under brown window wrap for many months. This is the second business for the owners who opened Chomp N’ Swig, their first eatery, in February 2012.

Thank to Ben L. for the tip.

  1. Thanks Sarah (and Ben) for the news! I’d been wondering what was going in there!

  2. I like the name. But are we SURE we don’t want another bubble tea place, Nail Salon or 99 cent store?

Also – any updates on “De Place”?

  3. Just curious (alright, nosey!), but does anybody know why Chomp’s liquor license was suspended?

  4. What I heard is that it was something that happened two years or so ago right when they opened. Maybe that’s true or maybe not, but I do know there are a lot of rumors right now that the ABC is going around undercover to a lot of bars on Clement and Geary and checking IDs, so who knows. It does suck for them though as I think they make most of their money through the great beer they serve and not their food, which is also great. No one wants to wash down a taco with root beer. They were closed last night at a time they are normally open, so I imagine they are just trying to ride it through. I think the suspension lasts until sometime later this month, or at least that’s what it says on the door. I hope they open soon though; they have the best beer in the neighborhood.

  5. So excited for the newcomer on Clement!! I walk by this place almost every day: had no idea that there was work going on inside. The space is quite large, looking forward to seeing what they’ll do with the place. SO glad it’s not another bubble tea/random store/hot pot place (and I love all three of those things but we’ve got them in spades in the Inner Richmond already!)

  6. Thanks, J. My guess was that it was due to customers drinking their beer on the sidewalk and violating ABC rules, or perhaps noise issues. But it was merely a guess …

  7. their license was suspended for a misdemeanor the owner had years ago- it was finally settled in court and this was the result. pretty lame if you ask me. chomp n swig is the best! really missing their awesome beers this month.

  8. Super excited about this! As others said, stoked on any new developments that aren’t bubble tea lounges or massage parlors.

  9. The Chomp and Swig guys really know how to run a cool food place, so it will be great to see what they do with this new place. They create a warm, welcoming environment. I love their garlic fries.
