Photo: The day 100 Ferraris drove by my house

Around 9:30 this morning, reader Antonis P. tweeted that his “quiet office morning” was disrupted by the beautiful noise of over 100 sports cars driving by under his window on Fulton near 31st Avenue.

But these weren’t just any sports cars – they were Ferraris. As in I have a couple of hundred thousand dollars to spend on a sports car, Ferraris (including an Enzo model worth $2.5million + one Batmobile Lamborghini).

We’re not sure where these Italian racers were headed, but they had a police escort. Vroom vroom!

UPDATE: As usual it took about a nanosecond for someone to tell us what this was for, lol. It was Fog rally 2014, “50 Ferraris embarking on an epic, media intensive journey, the rally raises funds and awareness in the pressing issues of youth advocacy and public health via Ferrari Owners Charitable Foundation (FOCF).” They drive from San Francisco down to Santa Barbara.

Ok, so it wasn’t 100 but 50 is still a lot of Italian vroom at one time.

  1. It turns out it was mostly #Ferrari cars with the exception of the #batmobile #Lamborghini participating in the Fog Rally 2014 event for a good cause. Raising money for the Make a Wish Foundation Greater Bay Area @sfwish.

Great way to break away from the office.

  2. Cool. Are the terrible motorcycles that buzz and grunt through the neighborhood each weekend also promoting good causes?

  3. And that would explain my commute. I was driving on Pt. Lobos down the curve around the Cliff House. As I approached the traffic light at Fulton, I could see motorcycle lights flashing a bit further down on the Great Highway but I couldn’t see what had just gone by. I was pretty sure Obama wasn’t in town. (Thanks Antonis & Sarah for filling me in.)

There were about 40 cars waiting for the light in front of me. The police escorts must have held traffic for quite a while. And then done the same at intersections further south on the Great Highway. So I was stuck in this big clump of cars moving south that moved very slowly and didn’t really break up until I got to highway 1 north.

Ironic that super fast expensive sports cars had to drive so slow and clog up traffic behind them. I hope they at least raised a descent amount of funds to make up for the inconvenience.
