  1. @renee – it’s within their jurisdiction similar to Japantown and parts of Pacific Heights.

  2. Re: the people who were stopped and didn’t have a drivers license – what exactly happens, is their car impounded? I mean, I presume they aren’t ticked for failure to have a license, and then allowed to drive away! LOL (I think…)

  3. Sierrajeff, I seem to recall that question coming up re. a previous Police Blotter and I thought the answer was that the car does get impounded (don’t quote me on it though). In any case it seems like more people than ever seem to feel that getting a license is an avoidable inconvenience. Be careful out there !

  4. The people who get caught without a licence are typically people who currently unable to get licenses (that changes soon — January, I think).

Per state law (although originally SF law, then made state-wide), anyone pulled over for a minor violation who does not have a licence is cited, but not arrested. The person is then allowed to call someone who is a licensed driver to pick up the car.. I think they’re given an hour for the person to show up. If they can’t get anyone, the car is then impounded.

If you have a suspended or revoked licence, this doesn’t apply… not sure if your licence is just expired, but I also think it doesn’t apply.
