  1. D.Lee running for office, with help from wiener, ferrel, did not and will not vote or encourage him.

  2. Why is it Scott Weiner and Mark Farrell are attending, but the Richmond District’s own supervisor, Eric Mar, is not?

I realize there is always the danger someone, somewhere is consuming a sugary drink, but I live in a part of the Richmond with a chronic, even dangerous homeless problem, and it would be nice if Supervisor Mar would pay attention to this issue.

  3. As noted in the article, “The event is hosted by David Lee, head of the Chinese American Voters Education Committee (CAVEC) and former District 1 Supervisor candidate in 2012.”

I don’t think Mar was invited.

I’ve contacted him to doublecheck, and will update if I’m incorrect…

  4. I’ve spoken to David Lee via email. Mar was invited but has not responded.

I imagine that, like Batkid, he might just suddenly show up.

  5. As an initial comment, I would just add that Eric Mar is a complete empty shirt as a supervisor for the Richmond District. Remember his Happy Meals campaign? That was really relevant for life in the Richmond District. Local issues don’t seem to be of any interest to him.

As far as the homeless issue goes, I have lived on 10th Avenue since 1989, and in the last few years the church at the corner of 10th and Cabrillo has become a magnet for homeless people. I have to admit that I have very conflicted views about this. On the one hand, I think the people at the church have a sincere Christian belief that they are helping society’s downtrodden population (the positive side of Christianity), and the homeless people who are attracted to the church are almost uniformly very courteous and seem to be people who really deserve help. On the other hand, having homeless people hanging out on the benches at that corner, and the trash that sometimes gets left behind, makes me a little uncomfortable. Perhaps more my issue than theirs.

Unfortunately, I am out of town all this week and won’t be able to attend the meeting on Wednesday, but I hope someone posts something about the discussion.

  6. Agree with the comments about from Stephen about Mar. I went to one of his community forums and what he was interested in (for example…international workers’ rights) were completely different from what my neighbors and I were interested/worried/concerned about. What a disappointing meeting and almost a complete waste of my time, except for meeting some neighbors who had some good ideas about fixing things. Guess we will have to do it without Mar’s interest, involvement or help.

  7. If possible, could someone who attended please post a recap? Would like to have been there but had to work. Thanks!

  8. I thought we had a good discussion with Supervisor Mark Farrell (Chair of BOS Budget Committee) and Supervisor Scott Weiner about the complexities of the homeless issue in San Francisco and the Richmond District. I heard some great case studies of what other Supervisors and neighbors are doing in their districts to help. The meeting was well attended and neighbors had some really important insights and perspectives to share. A group discussion page was created on https://flic.kr/g/riuMh with photos from last night to try and keep people informed and connected. Feel free to join. In my opinion, it was a good start to getting neighbors together on an issue that a lot of people care about. The Richmond Review will have an article out on it in the next issue. Thanks to our sponsors Richmond Review, New America Media and CAVEC and the many people who came and shared.

  9. Does Stephen Creager mean 8th and Cabrillo? I don’t see a church on google maps at 10th and Cabrillo.

  10. The public library at Richmond is available for this type of public forum and events. Please contact us at the Richmond Library if you would like to host a future forum on the homeless in the community room at the library.
We hope to see you all at your community library!
