SCAM
05-21-2015 1:34 PM
California & 27th Ave
The suspect called an elderly resident on the phone claiming to be her granddaughter. A second suspect claiming to be “Sergeant Brenda Allen” got on the phone and said that the granddaughter had been arrested with 2 kilos of cocaine. This suspect told the victim to post bail in the form of $3000 worth of prepaid money cards. The victim went out, bought the cards, called the suspect back, gave the card numbers to the suspect over the phone and the suspect stole all of the value from the cards. The victim then suspected she had been scammed so she called her actual granddaughter who was not in any trouble.
Captain’s Note: Two other common variations on this scam are a call from a fake IRS agent demanding immediate payment of back taxes under threat of arrest and a call from a fake PG&E employee demanding immediate payment or the electricity will be shut off. The best way to tell that a call is a scam is when the caller demands immediate payment using a non-refundable, non-traceable method, usually money cards. The best thing to do is hang up. The suspects will quickly turn their efforts to someone else.

ARREST: STOLEN CAR
05-24-2015 12:42 AM
Park Presidio Bypass & Crossover
An officer doing traffic enforcement clocked a BMW at 57 MPH in a 35 zone. Upon stopping the car, he discovered that it was stolen and occupied by four boys aged 15-17. The boys stole the car by smashing a window and finding a valet key in the glove box. One of the teens confessed that the boys regularly drive around looking for cars to break into. They choose their targets based on the property they see inside.
Captain’s Note: This illustrates why you should never leave a key or valuables in the car. This also illustrates that traffic enforcement often yields benefits beyond improving traffic safety.

  1. On the Police Blotter, it’s noted the Richmond Station is on Nextdoor.com – has anyone signed up or know much about it? I wanted to get an idea of how active it is or if people actually use it – I don’t need another useless thing to pay attention to!
