SFPD Richmond District Police Station

Captain Simon Silverman is temporarily out of the office

Here are some of the incidents that occurred in the Richmond Police District this week:

DEFRAUDING PROVIDERS OF SERVICES AND ACCOMMODATIONS
07/16/2015 8:09 AM
PRESIDIO & CALIFORNIA
A hotel manager contacted Police after he got a call from a man living out of state, stating someone had used his credit card fraudulently to check into the hotel. Officers arrived on scene and attempted to make contact with the people in the room. A woman opened the door with the chain and told the Officers she was getting dressed, she would be out in a minute. After a few minutes the Officers knocked again with no response. The hotel management went upstairs and cut the lock, giving Officers access to the room. They located several items of stolen property, fraudulent credit cards and methamphetamine. Several witnesses approached the Officers and told them they saw two scantily clad people jump off the hotel roof and run northbound Presidio.
Suspect #1: Hispanic female, 30-40 years old, last seen wearing lingerie.
Suspect #2: Hispanic male, 30-40 years old, last seen wearing shorts.
Note: Love is a wonderful thing-except when it’s being made using the identity of someone else! Let’s hope these “Lying Lovers” learned their lesson and won’t be using stolen identities to plan their next getaway.

POST & PIERCE ST.
The victim was walking down the street looking at her cell phone when someone pushed her from behind. When the victim turned to see who it was, a male quickly grabbed her cell phone from her hand and ran away. The victim attempted to chase the suspect but noticed he had joined a larger group of people and, fearing for her safety, she gave up the chase. Officers were able to locate a witness who said they might know the suspect. Officers were able to recover the cell phone but were unable to locate the suspect.
Suspect: Black male juvenile, 12-16 years old, 5’4’ and 110 lbs.

A Scion was stopped at a stop sign allowing a pedestrian to cross in front of him in the cross walk. A Toyota pulled up behind the Scion, began honking impatiently, and then sped around into the intersection. Once the pedestrian cleared the way, the Scion began driving when the Toyota abruptly stopped in front of the Scion in an attempt to cause the Scion to rear end it. The Scion driver got out and went to the driver’s window of the Toyota, where the two drivers began arguing. The Toyota then sped away, with the Scion driver hanging on to the outside of the car. After a short period, the Scion driver fell free of the Toyota. All involved parties have been identified by police and an investigation is ongoing to determine whether any crimes were committed or whether any arrests will be made.

The Victim was at work when a male suspect entered his workplace and began moving around areas not open to the public. When the victim told the suspect he wasn’t allowed to be in the private areas, the suspect became enraged and began yelling at the victim. When the victim told the suspect he needed to leave, the suspect took a knife out of his pocket, held it in a threatening manner, and began walking towards the victim. The victim and his coworkers took swift action and were able to safely detain the suspect until police arrived. The suspect was arrested and booked into county jail on numerous charges.

A victim parked her car, not knowing that a car double parked across the street was waiting for the same spot. The driver of the other vehicle exited and approached the victim’s car yelling, screaming and calling her names. The suspect then grabbed the victim’s hair and scratched her face with her nails. The suspect then got into her car and fled in an unknown direction.
Suspect: Hispanic female, 20-25 years old, 5’3’, 126 lbs.

ROBBERY WITH FORCE
7/22/15 4:15 PM
4TH AVE & GEARY BLVD
The victim returned from a night out and was outside on her porch. The victim was attacked by surprise, punched in the face and thrown to the ground before losing consciousness. When the victim awoke, she realized her purse was gone, along with her cell phone and US Currency.
Suspect: Unknown heavy set male.

MALICIOUS MISCHIEF/ VANDALISM TO PROPERTY
7/22/15 12:34 AM
ARGUELLO & CLAY ST
An unknown suspect entered the courtyard of the above premise, triggering an alarm. It appears as though an alarm scared the suspect off, and the unknown suspect ran to the fence and attempted to vault it in an effort to get away. After several failed attempts, the suspect was able to eventually get over the fence, breaking it in the process.
Note: Our investigators will be checking local gyms for new members. Perhaps this criminal, embarrassed by his lack of fence climbing skills, has realized the need to get into better shape and recently started exercising.

ARREST: LOCAL SF WARRANT
7/22/15 2:00 PM
20 TH AVE & CALIFORNIA ST
Officers responded to the above area regarding a complaint someone was sleeping in a parked car. The Officers located the vehicle and ran a computer check of the car which revealed there was no record on file. The Officers made contact with the male suspect inside of the vehicle, who provided them with his California ID card. Dispatch advised the male suspect had a warrant out of San Francisco. The Officers arrested the suspect and he was booked into jail without incident.
Note: Sleeping in a parked car with bad license plates is not the wisest course of action for someone hoping to avoid contact with the police. Perhaps this criminal subconsciously wanted to be caught? I’ve heard the beds in county jail can be mighty comfy.

  1. Am hoping that Captain Silverman is in good health and is enjoying a vacation.

  2. It is illegal to take a nap in your own legally parked parked vehicle in the middle of the afternoon? You’ve got to be kidding me. I work about 30 hours a week plus go to school full time, if I have an hour or two to kill between those two things I often will take a nap in my car because time does not allow me to drive across town to my home to do so. What the hell is the problem?

  3. The problem is when it’s not someone like you. If you don’t have a law against it, then van camping, etc like on Fulton would be even more out of control than it is.

  4. Hi Capt’n,
My husband helped the young man, who tried to commit suicide in la playa Safeway last Monday eve around 11pm. Can you please tell me if he is alright? what happened after he left thd store ? You can email me as to keep it private if messesary.
    Thank you,
    Valencia Faux

  5. Has anyone else received an unexpected phone call (today for me) from “CalFresh” (the welfare agency regarding food stamps) saying they may qualify? I feel silly asking, but the number was listed as “Toll Free Caller”, not Calfresh as she introduced herself, and as #1-818-813-1134 (a woman’s voice, although a male voice can be heard in the background). We weren’t particularly expecting a call and they claimed we should call to see if we qualify (we are not going to call until I can verify this is a legitimate number).

If there is any chance that it is a scam, I wanted to make it better known. I checked the Internet and oddly found no evidence that it was or was not a legitimate phone number.

I cannot bring myself to contact the non-emergency number (am I being foolish) but I did want to ask and see what others might have to say. On a related note, I enjoy the community meetings and encourage others to attend.

  6. I’m sorry, I posted that phone number wrong: 1-855-813-1134
