Police Blotter – August 6, 2015

SFPD Richmond District Police Station
Weekly Update 08-06-2015
From Captain Simon Silverman

Outside Lands 2015:
The Outside Lands Festival takes place this Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Golden Gate Park. Richmond Station will have extra officers on duty to deal with any problems inside or outside the event. Call us if you need us. (For the record, the extra staffing is paid for by the promoter).

Last year, a number of people were disappointed when they bought counterfeit tickets from strangers on the street. This year, there are no paper tickets. Wristbands embedded with RFID chips are now “ticket 2.0”. However, I still advise against buying a wristband from a stranger on the street. There is a strong possibility that it will be counterfeit 2.0.

Here are some of the incidents that occurred in the Richmond Police District this week:

VANDALISM
07-31-2015 6:00 PM to 08-01-2015 7:45 AM
Botanical Garden in Golden Gate Park
An unknown suspect destroyed several plants in the San Francisco Botanical Garden overnight. The damage may exceed $10,000.
Captain’s Note: City parks are regularly damaged by vandals. This hurts all of us.

ARREST: HIT & RUN / DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE
07-31-2015 9:30 PM
Geary & Cook
A drunk driver rear ended another car that was stopped at a red light. The suspect then drove off but was captured at Noriega and 8th where he was arrested. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

THEFT FROM MAILBOXES
08-01-2015 3:05 AM
Jackson & Broderick
A citizen was walking his dog when he saw the suspects stop in front of a multi-unit building, pry open the mail box and steal mail.
Suspect #1: Black male, 20-30 years old, 6’ 180 lbs, wearing a black shirt
Suspect #2: Black female, 30-40 years old, 5’4” 200 lbs, wearing a white tank top
Suspects’ car: Dark gray mini-van
Captain’s Note: The suspects were most likely looking for documents to use for identity theft.

MENTAL HEALTH CALL
08-02-2015 12:46 PM
Balboa & 30th Ave
A husband called 911 to request police assistance with his wife who was very agitated (a probable consequence of bi-polar disorder). Officers found that the woman had broken several plates, injuring herself in the process. Officers detained her and paramedics took her to the hospital.

BURGLARY OF AN OCCUPIED RESIDENCE
08-03-2015 4:00 AM
McAllister & Arguello
The resident woke up to the sound of his front door chain rattling. He then saw a suspect peek into his bedroom. When the suspect saw him, she fled into the hallway. He heard her tell another person (presumably suspect #2), “Get out of my way.” Both suspects then fled without taking anything.
Captain’s Note: Emily Post’s Etiquette is silent on the topic of proper behavior when fleeing a crime scene. However, a polite “Pardon me” does much to foster conviviality between co-conspirators whereas the crass “Get out of my way” is never good manners.

MENTAL HEALTH CALL
08-03-2015 5:57 PM
Fulton & 18th Ave
911 callers reported that a person was climbing the scaffolding of a house under construction and taking his clothes off. Officers arrived and found the man talking incoherently and trying to wander into traffic. He tried to run away, but the officers detained him and paramedics took him to the hospital.

THEFT
08-04-2015 4:15 PM
Masonic & Geary
The victim was shopping in a supermarket. She left her purse in the cart and briefly stepped away to pick some tomatoes out of a bin. In her absence, an unknown suspect picked her wallet out of her purse.
Captain’s Note: There are always a few bad apples out there, so be sure to keep the fruits of your labor with you at all times. (People will no doubt complain about my rotten puns, but that’s just sour grapes. Sorry, I had to do it… It was low hanging fruit).

ASSAULT WITH PEPPER SPRAY / THEFT
08-05-2015 10:27 PM
Masonic & Geary
The suspects flagged down a taxi at Mason & Eddy and asked to be taken to Masonic & Geary. Once they arrived, they tried to pay the fare using three different credit cards (each of which was declined). The suspects then fled into a nearby store and the taxi driver followed them while expressing his displeasure. Suspect #1 then pepper sprayed the driver before leaving the scene.
Suspect #1: Black female, early 20s, wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans
Suspect #2: Asian male, early 20s, wearing a dark jacket and blue jeans

  1. Is there anything the police can do regarding the drug dealer on 10th and Cabrillo @ the corner store? A children’s playground is a block away. My teenage boys are the ones that informed me that he sells to the high schools students. Its is pretty blatant!

  2. Katie, I live next to the corner store you are talking about and I assure you that no one sells drugs there.

  3. “””Captain’s Note: Emily Post’s Etiquette is silent on the topic of proper behavior when fleeing a crime scene. However, a polite “Pardon me” does much to foster conviviality between co-conspirators whereas the crass “Get out of my way” is never good manners.”””

I’ve also experienced a break-in WHILE i was in my apt. It’s not funny or a laughing matter at all. Your adrenalin goes through the roof! And it’s something that stays with you for a very long time. I was lucky because i FLED the second i saw him. He was about to come in through a fire escape window, and I happened to hear him & see him, as he was taking off the window screen. I instantly grabbed my keys (which I always keep near the front door) and ran like hell. I was lucky that I was in the hall when I first heard him. If I had been in the back bedroom, I would have been trapped. (And THAT’S the part that haunts me.) Not one second of humor was ever derived from that break-in. Glad you can find humor in someone’s crime, though.

  4. Well said, NOT FUNNY. I do usually like the puns, but I take your point.
