Schoolkids will be busy building this Saturday at Ocean Beach for LEAP’s 32nd annual Sandcastle Contest. The contest pairs elementary school classes with professional contractors, engineers and architects to design a sandcastle that gets built on the day of the event.

This year’s theme is “Sand Cinema”. In 2014, Rooftop Elementary School took top honors for their Candyland sand sculpture. Who will win this year?

Bulding begins at 10:30am and finishes up at 2:30pm, so come by to check out the impressive entries from each school (awards presented at 3:30pm). Bonus points to builders who can incorporate a Corgi into their castle. 😛

Funds raised from the Sandcastle Contest through team entries and sponsorships help LEAP serve over 7,000 students in 2015 across 25 Bay Area schools with hands-on learning experiences in the arts. Teams and sponsors involved in Leap’s 2014 Sandcastle Contest raised over $262,000.

See you at the beach!

  1. Energetic, joyous corgis and painstakingly constructed sandcastles on the same beach? That sounds dangerous. Hilarious, but dangerous.
