This year marks the 40th annual SF Open Studios event, when artists across San Francisco open their studios to welcome in art enthusiasts. The month-long event showcases over 800 emerging and established San Francisco artists in their studios.

This weekend includes Richmond District artists, several of whom will be showing in groups at locations like Star of the Sea School (8th Avenue at Geary) and Park Presidio United Methodist Church (4301 Geary). It’s a great chance to explore the art that is being made right next door in your own neighborhood. Check out the map below for exact locations.

Artists showing include Marsha Giegerich Torkelson who combines photography and painting into a collage art form, painter Mariella Zevallos, abstract painter Fong Fai, Karen Olsen Dunn who works in prints, paintings and illustration, and fine art photographer Barbara Landis.

SF Open Studios runs both Saturday and Sunday from 11am until 6pm at locations in the Richmond District (see map below), as well as these other neighborhoods: Fort Mason, Marina, Pacific Heights, Russian Hill, North Beach, Hayes Valley, NOPA, Haight, Buena Vista, The Presidio, Sunset, West Portal, and Oceanview.

  1. I heard Barbara Landis is being displaced from her studio due to rising rent…no surprise there. I hope she gets a big turn-out, as well as the other artists.
