Earlier this morning, construction crews from M Squared working on the year long water main upgrade project on Clement Street hit a snag.
Just outside Plough & Stars on Clement near 3rd Avenue, a water main was accidentally damaged, causing flooding, loss of water pressure and damage to the front of one business.
Cub reporter David H. was on the scene and reported that the break caused debris to be thrown up from the street which cracked the front window of Plough & Stars.
Businesses on the street, including Eats on the corner of 2nd Avenue, are experiencing a loss in water pressure and debris in their water supply. Eats has decided to use bottle water until the break is repaired and cleaned up.
The SF Water Department is on the scene and has called in a claims unit to work with businesses.
Water will be cut off to nearby businesses and residents while the repair is made, which will take several hours.
The construction is part of a year-long project to replace the water main lines along Clement Street from Arguello to 14th Avenue. The blocks of Arguello Boulevard from Geary to Lake will also have its water main pipes replaced. The project is being completed by city contractor M Squared.
This is the latest in a string of contractor accidents on city projects. Haight Street has experienced five accidental gas line ruptures while city contractors work there on a infrastructure project.
