Mission accomplished: USPS returns mailbox to corner of 22nd & California

Angelina’s Cafe owner Angie Rando gives the new USPS mailbox a welcoming hug

It’s a New Year’s miracle! We just got word that a blue USPS mailbox is back on the corner of 22nd and California Street, just outside Angelina’s Cafe.

In November, we told you about the efforts of Angelina’s to get their mailbox back after it was damaged, and then removed by the USPS in April 2015.

Angelina’s project manager, Pauline, tried in vain to contact someone at the USPS to request a new box, but kept hitting dead ends. The cafe even started a petition to gather signatures to convince the USPS.

Whether it was our previous story, the petition, Pauline’s efforts, or a combination of all 3, it was enough to finally catch someone’s attention at the USPS. Just before the New Year, the box was re-installed on the corner.

In case you’re curious, pickup times for the box are 1:15pm Monday through Friday, and 2:15pm on Saturday.

Welcome back, our blue friend. We missed you!

  1. Looks heavy…hope she didn’t have to carry it all the way back herself ;^}

    Congrats!

  2. So glad to have the mailbox back! A big round of applause to Pauline, and those who helped keep the ball moving.
