A fire broke out at Yin N Yang Gourmet Specialties at 623 Clement Street near 7th Avenue on Friday morning around 9:30am. Black smoke could be seen rising above Clement Street from the fire.

The fire started in the kitchen on Yin N Yang Gourmet, and then spread to the kitchen of the adjoining dim sum restaurant at 621 Clement Street. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

One restaurant worker was injured in the fire and sustained a burn to his arm. He was taken to a hospital for medical attention.

Two blocks of Clement Street from 8th Avenue to 6th Avenue were closed off to traffic while the fire was being handled. A ladder truck sent firefighters onto the roof of the shared building that houses both businesses to cut a hole in the roof.

AAA, located nearby on the southeast corner of 7th and Clement, closed for the day “due to smoke from fire”, a sign said on the store’s window. They will reopen on Monday.

The fire was contained by 10:16am according to the @SFFDPIO Twitter account. Fire crews were still on scene as of 12pm, cleaning off equipment and talking with the restaurant owner.

  1. Oh, that’s a shame! I am glad there was only one injury (though obviously, saddened about the injury!). I like the dim sum/bakery place next door, hope both restaurants can recover soon.

  2. Thank you for letting us know and these excellent photos. This is also one of my favorite places (try their sweet taro cream puff, shrimp rolls, combination buns and moon cakes). I hope they’ll let us know if we can be of any help because they are an important part of my community.

  3. pho long boa next door is sure getting a lot of business now

  4. Walked by the store today. Piles of burned trash and food supplies are still in the street blocking 2-3 parking spaces. Smells bad, it’s been ten days who is supposed to pick this stuff up?

  5. The advertised as,”The Best pork buns in town!” and really were the best cha siu bow in town.We often bought lots of other dim sum there, and I liked their sesame balls a lot too. My mom shopped there too, it was like a family tradition buying food there with the black and white tiles store. When will they reopen?

  6. My family and I visit San Fransisco a few times a year as a way to escape the heat and on special occasions because of nastalgia and we always buy food from that Dim Sum restaurant; we went there just last week and was surprised to see it had been burnt. Hope all is well and they are able to reopen again soon; there aren’t any other dim sum restaurants as good as the ones they made!
