Blue Danube on Clement to finally re-open this Sunday

bluedanube

We just got the good news that Blue Danube at 306 Clement is finally ready to re-open!

The coffee house has been closed for just over a year after some flooding damage and renovations. Owner Jimmy says they finally passed all their inspections this week and plan to re-open this Sunday.

“I plan to open on Mother’s Day just to give free coffee and tea to all the customers that come by. In appreciation for all the support and patience throughout this arduous process this past one year and two months,” Jimmy said.

Jimmy says they’ll close again after Sunday for a brief time to prep and train staff. But he hopes to open his doors back up for good on Thursday or Friday of next week “with limited hours of operation and menu items due to lack of staffing during this process”.

We’re glad to hear that Blue Danube will rejoin Clement Street! Stop by on Sunday to say hello.

  1. Can’t wait to see FRESH CARPET in that place! Old stuff was like drinking coffee in an anarchist squat in Brussels where Amebix just finished playing a set off their ‘Arise!’ LP

  2. Great news!
Now we’ll all have to stop by and get drinks and sandwiches to support them.
It will be nice to have Blue Danube back!

    Lucky !

  4. I freaking love this place! The owner is the coolest. Best coffee spot in town!

  5. I second that Hemingway. The owner is the coolest! Go there and support Blue Danube. You’ll love it.

  6. Great news. Hopefully they got rid of the carpet altogether. Wood floors will smell a lot less and be easier to clean.

  7. I went on Sunday afternoon and said hello to Jimmy, who was there chatting with all the people coming in, looked around, got my coffee, and sat down to write at my favorite table. I wondered how much they’d have to replace and how much they’d change, and worried a bit about losing the bohemian charm. Here’s my report for the regulars: The cute tables are still there, but improved. They didn’t get rid of any of the cool patterns, but instead gave the old tables a new layer of resin, so you get both charm and a new, smooth surface. The sign, chandelier, and sort of floral patterned wood paintings are there. The ratty couches have been replaced with nice, new couches. The new couches are the same sizes and in the same arrangement as the old ones. In fact, the whole layout of the place has been preserved. The carpet has been replaced. Everything has been re-painted–keeping the same color scheme. The espresso machine, which was so loud and annoying, has been moved back a bit.

Even though all they had on Sunday was coffee and tea, the place was hopping. People came in and said hello to the owner. Lots of regulars came by to say how glad they were it was back. I saw friends chatting, students studying, families relaxing, and solitary visitors reading and writing.

In summary, the same great vibe, with some improved furniture.

  8. HOORAY!!!! Sad I missed the soft opening. The owners are great people.

  9. Wow, glad to hear they were able to stick it out for that long without being open!
