HARDLY STRICTLY BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL
The Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival will take place September 30th through October 2nd. The Golden Gate Park and surrounding area will, as usual, be inundated with revelers and a fantastic time will be had by many. The Richmond District is truly fortunate to host this amazing FREE event. The event boasts over 100 artists performing on 7 different stages located throughout the park.

Richmond Station Officers are working closely with the event coordinators to ensure that the event runs as smoothly as possible, and negatively impacts local residents as little as possible. The Police Department encourages visitors to the event to be proactive about their safety and be aware of their surroundings. Please report any suspicious activity or persons to the police as soon as possible!

Parking limitations and traffic congestion will undoubtedly frustrate residents of the Richmond District as thousands of people flock to the festival. Officers will be working to ensure that traffic continues to flow on Fulton Street during the event. Parking violations should be referred to SFMTA by calling 3-1-1.

Visit www.hardlystrictlybluegrass.com/2016/ for more information about the event.

UPCOMING CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission has informed us that commencing October 10th, 2016, 6th Avenue will be closed to through traffic and one lane of California Street will be closed during work hours. This phase of the project is expected to last approximately one month.

Then, beginning on or around November 7th, 2016, 6th Avenue will be closed to through traffic 24 hours a day for approximately 7 days while the next phase of the project is underway.

The work is being performed to relocate sewers and to build a cistern. It may be a good idea to take an alternate route while work is being performed at this intersection.

Here are some of the incidents that occurred in the Richmond Police District this week:

MENTAL HEALTH DETENTION
SPRECKELS LAKE
09/16/2016 5:55 AM
Richmond Station Officers responded to Spreckels Lake on a report of a submerged vehicle in the lake. The first Officers to arrive at the lake found the car, and it appeared that there was somebody inside. The Officers did not hesitate and jumped into the lake in their full police uniform.

The Officers swam out to the submerged vehicle and used their baton to break the car window. The vehicle occupant was removed from the vehicle, and Officers pulled him to the shore.

The occupant of the vehicle told Officers that he had driven the car into the lake intentionally in a suicide attempt. The heroic actions of the Officers who responded undoubtedly saved this individual’s life. He was transported to hospital for medical treatment and a psychological evaluation.

ARREST: ROBBERY WITH FORCE, VANDALISM TO A VEHICLE
CALIFORNIA STREET & BAKER STREET
09/15/2016 8:50 AM
The victim came to Richmond Police Station to report that he had been the victim of a road rage incident. He told Officers that he had been driving when he noticed the vehicle behind him trying to pass his vehicle. As the impatient driver unsafely passed the victim, he threw a cup of tea at the victim’s vehicle.

Feeling that this did not sufficiently show his displeasure at the victims driving, the suspect then stopped his vehicle, causing the victim to stop also. The suspect exited his vehicle, approached the victim vehicle, and began to kick the side mirror off the vehicle.

The victim pulled out his cell phone and began taking photographs of the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect then approached the victim and ripped the cell phone from the victim’s grasp and attempted to leave the scene. A bystander intervened and the suspect then threw the cell phone to the ground, causing damage to the phone. The suspect then fled the scene, no doubt thinking he’d gotten away with his disgraceful behavior.

Luckily, the cell phone was not broken and the victim was able to provide the vehicle information to Richmond Officers. The Richmond Investigations Team responded to the suspect’s address, where he was arrested and booked on several felony charges.

ROBBERY, COMMERCIAL ESTABLISHMENT WITH FORCE; ASSAULT WITH A CAUSTIC CHEMICAL TO INJURE OR DISFIGURE
BALBOA STREET & 26TH AVENUE
09/15/2016 7:11 PM
For the second time in less than a week, this small business has been robbed. On this occasion the suspect entered the store and pepper sprayed the employee. The suspect then took money from the register and fled the scene.

An unknown witness called 911 and provided information to dispatch. Officers responded to the scene, but the suspect had left prior to police arriving on scene.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 25 years of age, 5’10” tall and having a “chubby” build. He was wearing all black clothing and had a black handkerchief covering his face. The suspect vehicle is only described as a gold newer model Chrysler or Chevy.

It is unknown whether these incidents are related, and the investigation is ongoing.

  1. Thank you for posting the statistics, I really appreciate that, at first glance readers might think there’s a fair amount of crime being committed here in our district, but when you look closer, you can see that most of the crimes being committed are “Larceny Theft”, most likely these are muggings or crimes of opportunity like pick pocketing, in the month of August there were 248 Larceny Thefts reported, when this number is compared to the total population of The Richmond District of 59,297, it comes out to about 8 muggings a day, or 1 mugging per 7,178 residents.

I don’t know if this is good or bad compared to other districts here in SF? I will say that I was pick pocketed twice in one year while living in a European city years ago, but I have never had that issue here in SF, and I’ve been here for over a decade. It seems like a low number to me, and I think we’re pretty sleepy and quiet, that’s really nice, thank you again for the numbers guys ?
