The Pho Garden Challenge – are you pho real?

Thanks to reader Wolfgang for this one…

The popular Pho Garden Restaurant (2109 Clement St. at 22nd Avenue) has a unique, pho-tastic challenge for its diners. Dubbed the “Pho Garden Challenge”, the object is to get through what amounts to three bowls worth of Pho in an hour. Pho is a Vietnamese thinly sliced meat and noodle soup dish.

Even if you love love love Pho, this is a toughie. They bring a MASSIVE bowl to your table filled with two pounds of noodles and two pounds of meat. According to one Yelp user: “They are ginormous”. Intimidated yet? I bet they seat you in a lower-than-normal chair just to further break your spirit.

The prize for accomplishing this great feat? The meal, normally $22, is free and you get your 8×10 photo on the restaurant’s wall of champions crazies. No mention of whether they’ll pay for the cleaning when you hurl all over your friend’s backseat on the drive home.

More details from their website: The meal cost $22 if unfinished within the alloted time. No substitutions of any food products may be made. Challengers must eat all noodles and combination beef with tripe to successfully beat the Pho Garden Challenge. Please view our Rules & Waiver of Liability Form for more details.

Yes, you have to sign a waiver too! This is serious business. According to their site, they “seek true competitors” so wussies need not apply. Check out more photos of the brave souls who battled the pho.

I’ll be sitting this one out. The only thing I’ve been known to eat in massive quantities are chocolate chip cookies. And when I tried the milk challenge with some co-workers a few years back, I ruined a good pair of shoes when I…well, you get the idea.

So, are you pho real? Do you dare to take on the Pho Challenge?
