How the Federal Recovery Act is helping the Richmond District

Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi’s website features the interactive map below which points out the various businesses, organizations and projects in San Francisco that have benefitted from the the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (a.k.a. the giant stimulus package).

The act was signed into law by President Obama on February 17, 2009 and is designed to get our economy moving again by creating and saving jobs, giving American workers a tax cut, and beginning to rebuild America’s road, rail, and water infrastructure.

The bulk of the projects are in the central and northeastern sections of the city, but a little over $1.8 million is being spent on projects in the Richmond District (if you exclude Doyle Drive):

Geary Boulevard
$668,000 for repairs and improvements at various intersections

Northern California Institute for Research & Education
$789,768 from the Department of Health and Human Services

Ocean Beach Apartments
$397,698 for new construction, rehabilitation, and loan management programs

Doyle Drive
$50 million from the Department of Transportation to replace Doyle Drive with the Presidio Parkway, greatly improving the seismic safety of the roadway.

  1. I don’t know if I’m happy about the Geary improvements. It’s like I get to go on a amusement park ride every time I’m on the bus! haha jk! I’m very excited about it! Especially for those days after just a little too much coffee! 😉
