My new library card

Now that the Richmond Library has re-opened, it was time for me to get with the program. An article on the SF Public Library site gave me more incentive…

Last week they released their new “green” library card that is completely bio-degradable and made from corn. Everyone is going green these days! :)

The Library will continue to offer its regular library cards which come in four colorful designs created by San Francisco students as well as a “classic” design. To avoid adding materials to the waste stream, the new ecocard will only be offered for free to new library card holders and may be obtained as a replacement for a lost card for a $1 fee. Find out how to get a library card.

Another 2-headed snake in our midst

No, this post is not about city politics ;)

Saw a clip on the local news just now about a two-headed, redtail boa snake that was born in Hayward, CA at The Reptile Room. It brought back fond memories of the two-headed snake that I saw throughout my childhood at the Academy of Sciences. Wouldn’t it be great if the new Academy got this one too and kept the tradition alive?

Apparently they have had several four-figure offers for the snake, but here’s hoping it ends up in our backyard (in a nice, enclosed habitat of course!). A little video of it below:

Park Presidio & 19th Ave. lane closures this week

According to the Examiner (via Caltrans), lane closures will take place this week during a traffic-signal upgrade project. In the Richmond, lanes will be closed at Anza, Balboa, Cabrillo, California, Clement and Geary. Various southbound lanes will be closed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday; northbound lanes of 19th Avenue will be closed between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Caltrans crews will limit their closures to one lane at a time to lessen the impact on traffic.

If you’re headed south of Golden Gate Park, you may also encounter closures at Judah, Kirkham, Lawton, Noriega, Ortega, Pacheco, Quintara, Rivera, Taraval, Junipero Serra Boulevard and Lincoln Way.

Drive safely and be kind to the Caltrans workers. :)
