This Friday night at 6pm, nonprofit SalmonAid will sponsor a traditional tribal Salmon Bake on Ocean Beach.
Look for the event on the beach, one block South of Fulton Street beginning at 6pm. The bake will be hosted by Native American Tribes of the Klamath Basin.
It doesn’t state a cost but the event page does say “fresh Klamath salmon caught by Yurok fishermen will be offered free to SalmonAid supporters.” So it sounds like a donation is suggested, but it’s for a good cause.
The salmon bake kicks off the 2009 SalmonAid Festival, which takes place at Jack London Square in Oakland on Saturday and Sunday. More info about SalmonAid and their festival from their website:
“SalmonAid raises awareness of the plight of west coast salmon populations, the rivers and streams they spawn in, and the many coastal and inland communities that rely on salmon for their livelihoods and survival. The annual SalmonAid Festival features educational booths, activities and foods highlighting the natural history of salmon, as well as the history, culture and traditions of salmon towns and the peoples connected through our west coast salmon heritage – from Morro Bay, California to Bristol Bay, Alaska, and inland to Idaho and Nevada.” Find out more about SalmonAid
