Japonica – flower, gift shop & cafe – throws a 7×7 celebration

Yesterday, espresso cafe and flower shop/gift boutique Japonica welcomed Richmond District neighbors to a 7×7 celebration. The shop is located at the corner of California Street and 17th Avenue.

The 7×7 title denotes the 7 years that the floral and gift boutique has been open, and the 7 months since the adjoining cafe was spruced up and re-opened.

Lots of neighbors turned out to enjoy the warm day under Chinese umbrellas on the outdoor tables. San Francisco’s own Master roaster John Weaver was on hand; his coffees and teas are served by the cafe.

Richmondsfblog reader and foodie Wolfgang was on hand and had this to say about the great food at the event: “What I really liked was that many of her friends and customers brought home-cooked or self-baked foods. The ginger cookies were the best, delicious layer-cake as well, tasty morsels, and finger-food. Everything looked appetizing and yummy. The ice-tea was sweetened correctly, just a tad and very refreshing, while the organic coffee blend presented by her supplier Weaver’s tasted sublime.”

The adjoining flower shop and gift boutique is a favorite of neighbors in the area. Owner Valerie always has lovely flowers for sale and a unique selection of gifts. It’s a great place to stop when you need a quick gift or flowers.

Works from photographer Katy Druker were also on display while jazz/acoustic/swing band Trio Soulard provided entertainment.

Next time you’re in the neighborhood, stop by Japonica to say hello to Valerie who runs the shop, and barista Kelly who, Wolfgang tells me, lightens up the place with her smiles. 🙂
