Keep an eye out for Dept. of Public Works crews this week on Clement Street as they spruce up the joint.
In a city-wide effort to scrub San Francisco clean, the DPW will be out on Clement Tuesday through Thursday starting at 1pm to remove graffiti, steam-clean sidewalks, repaint curbs and remove litter.
The three-day cleanup effort is one of four “Super Eco-Blitzes” scheduled in the city, Department of Public Works spokeswoman Christine Falvey said. “The purpose is to beautify and clean up some of the busiest merchant corridors,” Falvey said.
The program is funded by the Department of Public Works and includes participation by the Department of Parking and Traffic, the Department of the Environment, and Recology, a waste management services company formerly known as Norcal Waste Systems.
The DPW just announced layoffs last week; among them are twenty four street cleaning positions. Between city budget woes and the layoffs, this could be the last time for awhile that we see intensive efforts like this.
And if you happen to see the crews at work, stop by to say thanks!
