MUNI board meeting Tuesday about 2 Clement changes

To make up for a $129 million budget deficit, MUNI plans to implement service changes this Fall to many lines across the city.

Among those changes proposed for the Richmond District lines, those to the 2 Clement are the most drastic, with plans to terminate service at Park Presidio Boulevard (see new route map). Currently, the 2 Clement runs all the way to 33rd Avenue.

A related community meeting was held in August to discuss the location of a new 2 Clement terminal.

Citing low ridership, MUNI officials further justify the service changes by pointing to the neighboring 1 California and 38 Geary lines that can provide the outer avenues access that will be eliminated from the 2 Clement route.

However many residents are concerned about the impact this may have on elderly riders in the Richmond, for whom even an extra block of travel on foot can be difficult.

In addition, some shoppers rely on the 2 Clement to take them from the outer Richmond into Clement’s main shopping corridor in the early avenues.

This Tuesday at the monthly MUNI board meeting, the 2 Clement service changes will be up for debate. In past board meetings, rooms have overflowed with residents concerned about the MUNI changes. However in this meeting, the only one up for discussion will be the 2 Clement.

If you’d like to attend, the meeting is Tuesday, September 15 at 9am, at One South Van Ness, 7th Floor 2pm in Room 400, City Hall.
