Prime Rib Shabu opens on 5th & Clement

San Francisco restauranter Luke Sung, who already has success with Isa in the Marina and Domo in Hayes Valley, has opened a new eatery, Prime Rib Shabu, at 308 5th Avenue just off Clement.

The new spot is, as the name reveals, a shabu shabu restaurant. Shabu shabu is a Japanese version of hot pot cooking, where ingredients are brought to your table and you cook it to your liking.

Urban Daddy reviewed Prime Rib Shabu and gave it high marks for the “heaping platters of meat, including the precious marbled cut-by-hand hunks, as well as the more traditional thinly sliced rib eye, lamb shoulder and seafood (think: head-on spot prawns, little neck clams and Hokkaido scallops).”

They conclude that Prime Rib Shabu is “where you’ll come with your buddies to cook all the steak you can eat in a boiling broth-based dashi.” EaterSF also mentions that they offer $24 all-you-can-eat nights on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Have you tried this new restaurant yet? I haven’t but I sure like saying “shabu shabu” for some reason. Though I have to confess, I really don’t get the concept of doing my own cooking when I go out to eat. I just have to make sure I take one of my cooking friends with me so they can do all the work. 🙂
