New Richmond Democratic Club for residents

A new organization has started here in the neighborhood called the Richmond Reform Democratic Club.

According to their website, the “newly created Richmond Reform Democratic Club will allow the voices of conservative, moderate and liberal Democrats to be heard in local politics.”

Promoting themselves as a forum for residents to be heard “by our Board of Supervisors on issues that are important to you”, the new club is made up of civic leaders, activists and business professionals who care passionately about the Richmond District. David Heller, President of the Geary Boulevard Merchants Association, is one of its members.

The group’s objectives, as listed in their by-laws, are as follows:

– Make our people more important than San Francisco politics
– Balance growth and cost of City services
– Attract and support local business while protecting the environment
– Ensure high quality education for our children
– Support creation and extension of recreational activities in our community
– Monitor legislature to prevent unfair tax burden on our citizens

To become a member, you need to be a registered Democrat and live, work or attend school full-time in the Richmond District or the adjacent neighborhoods of Seacliff and the Presidio. Dues are $25 per year; seniors and students are $10.

The group’s next meeting is on Wednesday, October 14 at the Richmond District Police Station’s Community Meeting Room at 7pm (461 – 6th Avenue). The goal of the meeting is to discuss RDDC Officer nominations. For more information, visit their website, email info@rrdcsf.org or call 517-2573.
