Schubert’s Princess Cake review

Bay Area blog “A Teaspoon for Two” has a short post about their recent trip to Schubert’s Bakery (521 Clement St.) to pick up a Swedish Princess Cake. “Every time we find ourselves in the city, my mother bugs – our begs – us to make this detour.”

Blogger gtrine goes on to say “I’ve never sampled anything from this bakery but I’ve heard great things about them. But really, calling something “the princess cake”? Kind of a dubious name right; I mean how do you live up to it?”

I don’t know! Did the cake live up to their expectations? Was Mom right all along? Read the rest of their review.

  1. My absolutely favourite cake in the City! Love what German master “Konditor” Ralph Wenzel did with this bakery a few years back, and the quality shines through… It’s the closest thing I know to what he have in the “Old Europe” and in Germany…

  2. The name Princess Cake goes way back to describe that particular cake whose origins are typically ascribed to the Swedish.

Princess Cake is one of my families favorite “special celebration” cakes and we think that the Princess Cake made at Schubert’s is the best in the City. I have had other Princess Cakes (not many, though, they are very difficult to find!), some with a sizeable dose of liquer – to the point of intoxification!, but for a truly scrumtious, velvety crum and stunning appearance, Schubert’s definitely “takes the Cake”! Frosted in a light green layer of marzipan, this cake doesn’t appeal to everyone, but if you are a Princess Cake fan, then I wouldn’t miss an opportunity to try the one at Schubert’s.

Oh, and did I mention that you can get it by the slice?! 🙂
